The multifaceted topic of energy storage is widely and organically investigated by the group, with a focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS) and their applications. Energy storage systems will be a fundamental part of the power systems, playing a forefront role both for the renewable energy integration and the provision of ancillary services (e.g. frequency regulation) to the system. The activities carried out are multiple: from modelling of large-scale BESS (see the proposed experimental protocol in figure below) to developing the control strategy for domestic battery ESS exploitation (e.g. within the framework of inteGRIDy project), passing by the analysis of the relevant regulatory framework and its evolution.
